Just because back to school clothes are meant to be comfy and practical, it doesn’t mean they have to lack style. As you prepare your back to school lists, consider thrifting your way through it! Goodwill Akron carries all of the back to school essentials for a stylish semester.

Need some inspiration on how to shop and put together a cute and comfortable look for the upcoming school year? Remember these basics:

Flats in a neutral color
Comfortable shoes are a must for school, especially on campus. I found these nude flats at Goodwill for $2. Neutral colors like black or nude will pair well with practically any outfit.

Comfy denim
Look for a pair that will work well with flats or boots. I found these skinny jeans for $5 at the Waterloo Rd store. When cooler temperatures hit, I can easily tuck them into boots for a fall look.

Light pieces for layering
Back to school style is all about layering. We all know how warm it can get walking to class but how chilly those buildings are inside. Add color to a simple outfit with a light jacket or cardigan in shades of burnt orange, yellow or purple. The best part is that you can shop jackets and cardigans all year round at Goodwill Akron.

Basic t-shirts
A basic yet flattering t-shirt is essential for back to school style. They are comfy, not overdone, and can easily be styled several different ways.

Backpacks, totes & accessories
Go for a classic backpack or try a vintage oversized tote or messenger bag for your books. I found a tan oversized tote for $2 that fits my laptop and other necessities. Adding a necklace, light scarf or even baseball cap can really elevate your look from basic to casual chic. I have been into caps lately and scored this original Boy Scouts hat for $2.

The rundown of my outfit:
Jacket: Forever 21, $4
Jeans: SO, $5
T-shirt: Old Navy, $3
Shoes: Target, $2
Tote: Brand unknown, $2
Hat: Boy Scouts $2
Necklace: not thrifted

July’s Thrifting Tip: Try to make it a habit to donate at least one item every time you go to Goodwill. By doing so you’re making room for new items in your house or closet, recycling, donating to a good cause, and receiving a discount towards your next Goodwill purchase!

Happy Thrifting!
