Highlights from 2010 Event
Nearly 400 fashionistas, foodies, and philanthropists packed the historic Tangier ballroom on November 18, 2010, for Goodwill Industries’ fifth annual Taste of Vintage benefit to experience the kind of fashion show that only Goodwill can host – all in the spirit of supporting the organization’s mission of helping individuals prepare for, find, and retain employment.
“Taste of Vintage 2010 turned out to be even more spectacular than we had hoped,” said Valarie Still, Vice President of Employee and Public Relations. “We are honored by the hearty support of attendees, restaurants, models, and volunteers. We saw a great turn-out and good participation in the auction. Goodwill is very grateful for the nearly $34,000 this year’s event raised to support the Youth Employment Opportunities to Work Program and Radio Reading Service.”
Preceded by silent and live auctions and tastings from some of the area’s finest restaurants and caterers, the fashion
show featured garments from 1947 through the late 1980s – most were donated pieces from Goodwill’s Vintage Collection. With oldies pumping through the speakers, 35 notable women from the Akron area community graced the runway, demonstrating to the audience how trends in fashion go “in” and “out” between decades.
Guests at the event sampled hors d’oeuvres, mini-entrees, and desserts from a variety of restaurants and specialty businesses including:
- Akron Woman’s City Club
- Great Harvest Bread Co. (Fairlawn)
- Hattie’s Café (Akron)
- House of Hunan (Fairlawn)
- Little City Caterers (Kent)
